Licensed workout music, your own radio ads and class announcements, made for South African gyms.

To play music in a gym in South Africa you need two things: a music service made for businesses, and a public performance licence.

What your gym needs

STEP 1

GymRadio.com

Your music service. We hold the music supplier licences for the tracks we play, so the music itself is cleared for use in your gym.

STEP 2

Public performance licences from SAMRO and SAMPRA

SAMRO covers the songwriters and SAMPRA covers the recordings, so most gyms need a licence from both. They work out the cost from your gym’s size and how you use music, including classes.

Get your licence directly from SAMRO and SAMPRA. For other countries, see licensing by country.

More than music

See everything in music for gyms.

  • Workout stations for every part of the gym, updated every day
  • Your own 15-second radio ads in a minute, with a natural English voice
  • Classes announced a few minutes before they start, from your timetable
  • Clean or explicit music, your choice

Questions from South African gyms

Can I play Spotify or Apple Music in my South African gym?

No. Their terms are for personal use only, and a public performance licence does not change that. You need a music service made for businesses, like GymRadio.com.

Does GymRadio.com replace your SAMRO and SAMPRA licences?

No. You need both. GymRadio.com provides the music for business use, and the licence covers playing it in public in South Africa.

Do the ads and class announcements need a licence?

No. The ads and announcements you make in the Ad Studio are your own content.

Which currency do I pay in?

You can pay in rand: Pro is R1,299 a month, or R12,490 a year.
